Lagos, Nigeria Has Deployed Over 22000 Solar Street Lights Throughout The City

The Lagos State Electrification Agency (LSEA) has deployed over 22000 solar powered streetlights throughout the city, bringing unprecedented safety and beauty to the city's nights and opening a new chapter in green lighting.

The installation project of solar street lights covers many major roads and areas in Lagos city. From Governor's Road in Olausa, where the state secretariat is located, to Moboraj Johnson Road, Accident and Emergency/7Xi Road, Old Toll Station Road/Olusoton Road, to Herbert Macaulay Road in Yaba and Bode Thomas Road in Sululel, these once dimly lit roads are now illuminated by bright solar street lights.

For decades, Lagos has mainly relied on grid electricity and diesel lights to illuminate its streets. However, the Lagos State Electrification Agency pointed out that this traditional lighting system is not only expensive and unreliable, but also poses a threat to the environment.

Recognizing the need for a cleaner and more sustainable alternative, the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, has begun to rethink how to use renewable energy to power the city's public lighting system.

This vision has given rise to the ongoing solar street light project, a milestone initiative that not only enhances the safety and visibility of the city, but also embodies the concepts of environmental protection and energy efficiency.

Olorad Agbola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Electrification Agency, stated that this transformation is the result of the Lagos State Government's visionary leadership and strategic planning under the leadership of Governor Babajid Olusora Sanwo Olu, and is in line with the THEMES+agenda implemented by the government.

Through the implementation of the 'Light up Lagos Solar Street Light Plan' by the Lagos State Electrification Agency, over 22000 solar street lights are being installed throughout the state. This plan is a model of effective cooperation within the government.
