On December 26, 2025, on the occasion of the 132nd anniversary of the birth of Comrade Mao Zedong, the Chinese Embassy in Burundi and the Burundian government jointly held the lighting and delivery ceremony of the "Mao Zedong Avenue" solar street lamp project in Bujumbura, the capital of the Burundian economy. More than 60 people attended the event, including representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mining, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the province of Burundi, as well as Chinese friends from all walks of life and overseas Chinese in Burundi.
The "Mao Zedong Avenue" solar street lamp project, implemented by Sichuan Province, is one of the important achievements of Burundi President Ndayismiye's visit to China in 2023 to strengthen local cooperation between the two countries. In his speech, the Acting Charg é d'affaires of the Embassy in Burkina Faso, Fang Guoqing, stated that "Mao Zedong Avenue" is a witness to the historical friendship between China and Burkina Faso, and the illumination of the avenue by solar street lights is a reflection of the deepening practical cooperation between the two countries in the new era. The Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Mines of Burundi thanks the Chinese side for providing valuable assistance in improving the infrastructure construction of Burundi and promoting the development of clean energy in Burundi. He requests relevant departments to do a good job in project maintenance and maximize social benefits.
The guests present highly praised the "Mao Zedong Avenue" solar street light project, which coincides with the connection of Prince Ruvasor Avenue, a national hero of Burkina Faso. It has achieved a handshake between the historical figures of Burkina Faso and China across time and space, symbolizing a brighter future for the development of bilateral relations.
